From May to September, friends and neighbors enjoy free Thursday night concerts featuring rock, R&B and jazz at The Courtyard of Apple Valley Commons. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring their own chairs and receive a free raffle ticket to win a prize from a local shop.
This annual event kicks off with a parade followed by a 5K race and festivities at Hesperia Lake Park, including the American Music Festival, plus a kids' fun zone, food trucks, vendors, a rubber ducky race and fireworks. The following day, the festivities wrap up with a gymkhana rodeo.
Hesperia rocks on Friday nights in August, with two bands taking the stage to entertain locals, featuring cover bands like So Petty, a Tom Petty tribute band, and Femme Halen, an all-female Van Halen group.
Thanks to the Mohave Historical Society, there are more than a dozen granite markers throughout Hesperia where you can learn about the fascinating history of the area. Stops include the site of Hesperia’s first General Store, the Stratton Homestead, and the area’s first schoolhouse.

Explore this 1.4-mile out-and-back trail near Apple Valley, California. This is generally considered a moderately challenging route. Bell Mountain is a very popular area for birding, hiking, and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are January through September. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
Mojave Riverwalk, a Class I trail ideal for walking or biking, stretches 3.9 miles one way and connects to a seven-mile loop of Class II bike lanes and bike routes. Starting at Victor Valley College, the trail continues under the Yucca Loma Bridge and into Mojave Narrows Regional Park.
Park Memorial spans 12.6 miles, and 15% of that distance features a singletrack that reaches an elevation of 4,825 feet at its apex. A popular designated spot on the course is a 14% incline that stretches nearly 3 miles.
Golf meets soccer at Green Tree Golf Course, where foot golf can be played by kicking a soccer ball into a 21-inch ground ring on 18 holes. Golf rules and etiquette remain the same, including that foot golf players aim to kick the ball into each hole using the least strokes possible.
Apple Valley Golf, once played by golf superstars Arnold Palmer and Gary Player, bills itself as having the best greens in the High Desert. Nearby, you will also find the Bear Valley Country Club, Jess Ranch - Golf and Hesperia Golf.
El Mirage, a 27,275-acre OHV Recreation Area, is known for the hard riding of ATVs, trucks, cars, motorcycles and other off-highway vehicles across a dry lakebed and several Mojave Desert trails. Overnight and weekend stays are encouraged, thanks to a dozen designated campgrounds.
Mojave Narrows Regional Park is an 886-acre oasis featuring lush plant growth, acres of trees, and more than 1,500 species of wildlife. It features fishing, equestrian trails, disc golf, wildlife photography, hiking trails and camping - plus there’s a playground with a splash pad.
Silverwood Lake Swim Beach boasts a sandy beach to play volleyball and frisbee or just catch some rays. Activities include water skiing, boating, and fishing, and a full snack bar and a small store are available for purchasing food, goggles, floaties, ice, and more. Silverwood Lake sits along the Pacific Crest Trail, so hiking is another entertaining option.
The High Desert landscape at Oak Springs Campground & Venue offers visitors and residents a unique and beautiful camping experience. Amenities include an outdoor kitchen and plenty of natural spring water. Surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest, activities include horseback riding, guided nature trail excursions, and relaxing at Deep Creek Hot Springs.
Victor Valley offers many other outdoor adventures that can be enjoyed either locally or within an hour’s drive. Snow skiing is plentiful at Big Bear, Wrightwood and Snow Valley. Zipline enthusiasts can enjoy Pacific Crest in Wrightwood, which offers zip runs with speeds of up to 55 mph. Hiking, biking and horseback riding can be enjoyed on the Pacific Crest Trail and the Lucerne Valley.
